BP’s electric vehicle charging brand, BP Pulse, will be installed at Ashford International in Kent, one of Europe’s largest truck stops, as part of a strategic drive to build a network of electric truck (EV) charging infrastructure across Europe.・Obtained free hold for a truck stop.
Ashford International Truckstop is strategically located close to junctions 10 and 10a of the M20, providing easy access to Dover, the UK’s busiest ferry port, and LeShuttle Freight via Folkestone’s Eurotunnel terminal. Ashford International Truckstop is currently owned by GSE Group. The 21-acre site already offers 660 secure parking spaces and convenient services for his HGV drivers. As part of the deal, bp Pulse will lease back the site to Ashford International Truckstop Ltd, part of the GSE Group, to operate the existing site facilities and secure parking on a long-term lease. bp Pulse operates and manages EV charging infrastructure.

In January 2023, BP opened Europe’s first truck charging corridor along the 600 km length of the Rhine-Alps corridor across Germany. 21 Aral Pulse (a German brand of bp) EV truck stops are already operational in Germany and will enable electric trucks to cover more than 750 km on multiple routes across Germany. Once EV chargers have been installed on the acquired sites, a bp pulse will be set up to establish a link between the UK and German charging corridors and further facilitate the transition of HGV operators to electricity.
This acquisition demonstrates BP’s strategy to increase investment in the transition to low-carbon energy while continuing to deliver oil and gas where it is needed today. EV charging is just one of BP’s five ‘transition growth engines’, along with convenience, bioenergy, hydrogen, renewables and electricity.
