As reported today, Google is rolling out its long-awaited “Find My Device” network. However, this has one side effect that may affect how you use your Android device in the future. Bluetooth can only be paused and cannot be turned off completely.

The “Find My Device” network is expected to go live in the coming days and will make it easier to find your phone, headphones, and even devices with other Bluetooth-enabled trackers. Bluetooth and general integration methods will also go live in the coming days. Android version.

The operative word here is “Bluetooth.” The billions of Android devices that have opted into the network silently communicate with each other, creating a massive web of location tracking. Each participating phone or tablet sends a type of encrypted location beacon, which nearby devices receive and pass to Google. Only the owner of the “lost” device will be able to see where it is.

However, there’s one problem. For all of this to work properly, Bluetooth must be turned on. As Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) discovered through his APK teardown, Google has released a solution in his Android 15 that allows you to effectively press “pause” on Bluetooth instead of turning it off completely. We are working on this. This may be because battery life is a concern if Bluetooth is always on and transmitting location information.

The feature is reportedly called “Bluetooth Auto-On.” Basically, if you try to turn off Bluetooth, it will automatically suggest turning it back on the next day. This allows features like Find My Device to continue working while conserving battery for as long as you need. This seems like a reasonable tradeoff.

However, keep in mind that delving into the preview code does not guarantee that these features will see the light of day. Additionally, some devices may not support the Bluetooth automatic switching feature.have to wait for official Android 15 We won’t know for sure until it’s released, but this is a sign that Google is taking privacy and battery life concerns about Find My Device seriously.
