The African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida is seeking an aspiring or accomplished Black business leader to award a full scholarship to Florida Institute of Technology.
This is the second time the chamber has awarded a full scholarship to a Black business leader to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Florida Institute of Technology.
Tanisha Nunn Gary is the Chamber of Commerce Chair.
She said her goal is to support Black business owners by providing them with the quality education they need to succeed.
“Black entrepreneurs often start businesses at higher rates than other groups. But unfortunately, many of them find it more difficult to grow. And three and a half years later, they still We see that only 4% of black businesses are open,” Nan Gary said.
She said business leaders should never stop learning, whether it’s continuing education or pursuing a full-time degree.
“I believe that no matter where you are in business, whether you are a start-up or a somewhat established company, it is important to always strive to learn, develop and grow.”
The program will award each successful applicant the equivalent of $61,000 and provide a free laptop and other support to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Florida Institute of Technology.
To qualify, you must:
- Become a founder or co-founder of a local or online business
- Demonstrate leadership and commitment to the community
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Able to communicate and work in English
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Qualified applicants include Black and African American residents
- You must submit a 3-minute (or less) video detailing your contribution to the community and how your degree will advance your career
