Binder USA LP, a supplier of industrial circular connectors, announced last week that it will now offer its M12 series of connectors as surface mount devices (SMDs). The company claimed that SMD allows processes to be streamlined and automated.
The Camarillo, Calif.-based company said its SMDs are useful for further processing in fully automated processes, such as high-density double-sided assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Binder USA says its M12 SMD connector features:
- Number of poles 4, 6, 8
- A, B, D, X coding
- IP67 protection class
- Binder says it’s compact and easy to automate.
- Shielded and unshielded versions available

Binder USA builds connectors for industrial applications
Binder USA added that its SMD connectors are suitable for robotics, factory automation, process automation, instrumentation, sensors and actuators. The company offers these as sets with various flange housings, as built-in parts in blister packaging, or as tape-and-reel packages for automated processing.
In contrast to classic through-hole technology and through-hole reflow processes, Binder says its SMD contact pins are placed directly on the surface in a surface mount technology (SMT) process, rather than being inserted into the PCB. Binder said this saves a lot of space. For example, many connectors can be installed in one plane and over very short distances, as is required for passive/active sensor distributors in automation technology.

In late 2023, the company expanded its 823/824 product series with K- and L-coded overmolded cable components that meet UL 2238 standards for North America. Binder said that the transmission of power through his compact M12 interface has become a fundamental requirement. New components provide power transfer to field devices such as sensors, wireless transmitters, and fieldbus devices.
