Biden campaign and Trump PAC release dueling ads on immigration

WASHINGTON — The Biden campaign and pro-Trump super PACs are running competing ads on immigration that paint vastly different pictures of the issue expected to impact turnout in November.

Biden’s ad focuses primarily on Latinos, but also explores former President Donald Trump and his rhetoric.

“Right now, I’m saying that immigrants taint the blood of our nation,” Biden said in the 30-second spot, an apparent reference to remarks he made at a campaign event in Phoenix this week. “What on earth was he talking about?”

The Biden campaign said the ad is the second to focus on Latinos this week. The show will be broadcast in English and Spanish on digital platforms in more than six battleground states.

“Let’s call President Trump’s words and actions what they are: anti-Latino, anti-immigrant and anti-American,” Maca Casado, the Biden campaign’s director of Hispanic media, said in a statement.

The 15-second ad, released by a pro-Trump super PAC called MAGA Inc., features audio of Biden criticizing the border wall over footage of migrants smashing through a section of the wall.

In the ad, Biden says, “No more walls will be built in my administration.” This appears to be the same line Biden said to NPR before winning the 2020 election.

“Every day’s chaos at the border is the fault of one man: Joe Biden,” MAGA spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer said in a statement. “Biden reversed Trump’s policies to deter illegal immigration.”

Pfeiffer said the ad, which Trump posted on his Truth social account with the words “Biden invasion,” was not in response to Biden, and declined to preview the PAC’s further plans for the ad. did.

The two ads highlight key issues in the campaign. About 28% of Americans named immigration as the most important issue facing the United States, according to a Gallup poll conducted in February.

An NBC News poll conducted in January found Trump holding a 35-point lead over Biden when voters were asked which candidate was better at border security and immigration control. But when voters were asked which candidate was better at treating immigrants humanely and protecting their rights, Biden held a 17-point lead over Trump.

The Biden campaign has frequently criticized President Trump’s comments on immigration, which he likens to Hannibal Lecter, a character from “The Silence of the Lambs.”

The new Biden ad also includes footage of Trump referring to Mexican immigrants in his 2015 presidential campaign, saying, “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” Published.

This ad is not the first time the two candidates have faced off on immigration on the same day. Last month, Biden and Trump visited the southern border in split-screen, meeting at the same time in different locations. During the visit, Mr. Biden asked Mr. Trump to help pass a bipartisan border bill that was negotiated in the Senate but later rushed by Republicans after criticism from Mr. Trump. Meanwhile, President Trump called the situation at the border a “Joe Biden invasion.”
