Rescuers are searching for at least seven people, and two others have been pulled from the sea, authorities said.
Officials say sonar has detected multiple vehicles underwater
The fire department said the ship crashed into a bridge pillar around 1:30 a.m. ET (5:30 p.m. Japan time), but the crash was not intentional.
The Port of Baltimore, located near the bridge, is the largest U.S. port for specialty cargo.
