AT&T Outage Ends, iPhone SOS Crisis Resolved: What Happened?

[ad_1]

according to AT&T’s official X/Twitter account, the ongoing iPhone SOS service outage has officially ended. Networks have been struggling to resolve ongoing outages since earlier in the day, leaving many iPhone users stuck in SOS mode, unable to connect to cellular service and some unable to contact emergency services. died.

AT&T’s outages after Verizon, T-Mobile, Cricket and other customers mistakenly believed their cell phone service was also out of service and submitted outage reports to the outage tracking website DownDetector, causing a spike in service outage reports. quickly became a mini-crisis. Many networks did not experience total failure.

Thankfully, T-Mobile and Verizon were quick to point out that these reports were the cause of customers trying to connect to users whose AT&T service was disrupted, and that things were working fine on both sides. .

Meanwhile, AT&T has been battling technical difficulties for more than 12 hours, and only within the last hour (as of press time) did the company announce that full service had been restored.

We apologize to the customers affected. All wireless services have been restored.February 22, 2024

What caused the AT&T outage?

The outage may be over, but many questions remain about what caused it in the first place.

Rumors of cyber attacks, solar flares, and even aliens are flying around the internet. However, there is currently no official word on how AT&T’s network took such a dramatic hit.

What we do know is that AT&T is currently working with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). F.C.C. (The Department of Public Safety and the Department of Homeland Security are privately investigating this matter) to find out.

According to CNN, National Security Spokesman John Kirby said there is no evidence of a cyberattack on the network and that both the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are investigating today’s service disruption.

However, a recent Twitter/X post by AT&T may have fixed the issue. In the post, AT&T claims that after an initial investigation, it believes the outage was caused by “the incorrect application and execution of processes used in expanding the network, rather than a cyber attack.” There is.

AT&T will continue its evaluation with the goal of “reliably continuing to provide the services our customers deserve.”

After all, why not aliens or solar flares? I’m sorry.

Based on our initial investigation, we believe this outage was not caused by a cyber-attack, but rather by the incorrect application and execution of the processes used to extend the network. We continue to evaluate to ensure we continue to provide the service you deserve.February 23, 2024
