When Apple announced the ports of several big console games for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPad (and possibly macOS), I had already played three of the four games announced. The games I hadn’t played much, and decided to hold off on playing until the iPhone came out, were: Assassin’s Creed Mirage (Free) From Ubisoft. Assassin’s Creed Mirage For this review, I played on an iPhone 15 Pro and a PS5, syncing progress between both platforms via Ubisoft Connect.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage The setting is Baghdad and players travel as Basim ibn Ishaq. Assassin’s Creed Mirage It is set before Assassin’s Creed Valhallaand was originally planned as an expansion to the series before being changed to become a full game. I found the focus on classic parkour, stealth, and assassinations odd at first compared to the full action RPG that recent games have, but I have no complaints. Assassin’s Creed Mirage It’s great to have a modern game that focuses on the classic series when it comes to story and gameplay, and I hope to see more games like this in the future among the larger RPG installments of the series.
We waited nearly two weeks after launch to see if any updates would be released to fix any initial or launch issues. Assassin’s Creed MirageIn terms of features and port quality, I think this is what players should expect in the near future. When you launch the game, you will need to download about 7.5GB in-game. This is something I wish more developers would do when porting console games to mobile. Unless your game only has a few action buttons, it’s no longer feasible to just stick virtual buttons on every controller input. Assassin’s Creed Mirage Apart from a few small touch targets, it feels tailor-made for the iPhone 15 Pro, at least in terms of controls.
Customizing controls Assassin’s Creed Mirage You can move the virtual buttons to different sets of controls (swim, base, etc.), make the buttons bigger or smaller, and I also like that there are red zones that indicate any overlap issues while you’re trying to tweak the layout to your liking. Assassin’s Creed Mirage This concerns many non-gameplay sections: touch targets in some menus are often too small, and while the game’s frame rate is capped at 30fps at the time of writing, menus don’t have to feel sluggish; hopefully this aspect will improve over time.
I waited a few days to publish this review because I wanted to try it out with the new Backbone One PlayStation Edition USB-C controller. I’m glad I did. I feel like this is one of the first few games I’ve played that not only properly detects the controller with the PlayStation button prompts, but also has the Backbone One button prompts for menus and other non-gameplay buttons. The game plays perfectly on Backbone too.
What impressed me most visually was Assassin’s Creed Miragebut performance is where things fall apart. When playing with the high graphics preset, the image is good but the performance is unacceptable. I finally put up with the game’s performance on medium settings, but combat really struggles. In addition to the unstable frame rate in these parts, frame pacing is also an issue, as the 30fps cap isn’t perfect. Even when playing with the low graphics preset, there is a drop from 30fps, although it’s not as bad as with the medium or high presets. This is pretty disappointing and I hope that a patch will improve this at least for the low and medium presets. High is probably best for the new iPad.
MrMacRight on YouTube has a great video showing how this game works on various iPads, although I don’t currently have an iPad that can run this game. Assassin’s Creed Mirage That said, I do have the PS5 version of the game, so I was curious to see what it would be like to sync my saves and play on my PS5 and iPhone. The PS5 version runs and looks much better, with 60fps gameplay and sharper graphics. I had a lot of fun. Assassin’s Creed Mirage I played it on my iPhone as a way to keep playing bits and pieces of the game when I was away from home.
I like the gameplay and story, but I want to focus on the music. assassin’s creed While the game generally excels in this regard, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is awesome. This is definitely a game to play with headphones. The English voice acting is a bit inconsistent so I would have liked to check out other dubs. The game does require some additional in-game downloads so keep that in mind especially if you want to play with Arabic audio.
This is more than a solid foundation for Ubisoft, and it’s just a few more patches away from being great. Cross-progression via Ubisoft Connect would make it even better. This is not a game I’ll play later unless there’s notable DLC, but I hope Ubisoft continues to support cross-progression. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Riders Republicand Immortals Fenyx Rising It’s already out on consoles, but the fact that it’s coming to mobile as well bodes well for Ubisoft’s upcoming ports.
One point I want to address is price. Assassin’s Creed Mirage As with other platforms, it costs $49.99 to unlock the full game. On top of this, there are optional DLC packs for deluxe upgrades, weapons, etc. The reason I bring this up is to let everyone know that these are the same DLC packs sold on consoles, as shown on the App Store page, and not new ones for mobile. I’m not a fan of full-price premium games including stuff like this, but unfortunately Ubisoft’s release has put an end to that idea. Assassin’s Creed Mirage There is nothing more you need to do to unlock the complete game and get the proper gaming experience.
I have two thoughts Assassin’s Creed Mirage Now available to play on the iPhone 15 Pro. It’s a great game and Ubisoft has put a lot of effort into making it feel great with touch controls, but performance issues are holding it back for now. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a free game to try, so we encourage you to give it a try, but make sure you play until you’ve experienced the combat so you can properly judge how it works on your device.
