The Asanteman European Association, a non-profit organization made up of European Ashanti, is planning to hold a Mammoth Festival in Germany.
According to the group, the long-awaited festival is scheduled to take place from September 13 to September 15, 2024.
The association officially launched the festival on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the National Cultural Center of the Ashanti Region.
Nana Akiya Oyakwan, a key member of the association and the Asante Queen Mother of Switzerland, said at the launch that the association is ready to promote Asante culture to the whole world.
“The festival, named Asante Europe Afahie, Düsedorf 2024, celebrates the vibrancy and uniqueness of our community.”
He added that the association will use the festival to share the rich Asante culture with other European communities.
Nana Akia Oyoakwan stressed the importance of the Asanteman European Association, adding that it has become a beacon of hope for Asante across the world.
He disclosed that Asanteman Europe is an association comprised of 16 member Asante associations spread across 12 countries within Europe.
She said the 16 Asanteman affiliate unions are based in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Austria, Spain, Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, who officiated at the ceremony, commended the association for upholding Asante culture in Europe.
He enjoined them to secure rich Asante food, adding that its nutritious nature would be good for those working in Europe.
Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah pledged unflinching support to the association, adding that his office would be open to members of the group at all times.
