Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today criticized jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as a man with “very limited time”, hinting at the end of his chief ministership.
Puri said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader’s wife Sunita Kejriwal is likely to be preparing to take over the top post soon. “Mr Kejriwal’s wife was not only a colleague in the revenue department. They have sidelined everyone. Now she is probably preparing to take up the top post,” Housing and Urban Affairs Minister said. told reporters in Delhi today.
Referring to the wife of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Yadav, who became chief minister after being imprisoned in a number of corruption cases, Puri said, “Madam probably Rabri Devi did what she did in Bihar.” He is probably preparing to take up the position.”
Puri, who is also the petroleum and natural gas minister, said, “Mr. Kejriwal did not respond to the summons nine times. After that, officials from the Enforcement Directorate visited his home. You can leave him alone, but Mr. Kejriwal’s time is too much. is very limited,” he said.
Mr. Kejriwal was arrested on charges of money laundering in the Delhi liquor policy case, which is now blank. Yesterday, his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was extended for four days.
The Union minister also criticized the Congress for protesting over legitimate tax demands. “Everyone has to file a tax return. Income is only going to increase,” he said.
A day after the Delhi High Court dismissed the party’s petition challenging the tax notice, the Congress received a Rs 1,700-crore notice from the Income Tax Department. The new notification covers assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21 and includes penalty and interest.
“Their time is up. We should talk about them in the past tense,” Puri said, referring to protests planned by the opposition India Bloc on March 31.
While Mr. Kejriwal was in ED custody, his wife Sunita Kejriwal today made the third video announcement on his behalf announcing the ‘Kejriwal Ko Asirwad’ campaign. She shared her WhatsApp number and appealed to people to message Kejriwal.
Sunita Kejriwal is a former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer who worked in the income tax department for 22 years. She met Arvind Kejriwal during her training program in Bhopal. She was born in 1994 and her husband was born in 1995.
