Apple’s car project was shut down last month, which meant a change in resources, including layoffs of staff working on the project.
This also means that Kevin Lynch, Apple’s vice president of technology, will change his role at Apple Car and will now report to John Giannandrea while working on the company’s AI efforts. Ta.
That’s what Bloomberg’s Mark Garman said in his latest Power On newsletter, where Garman said the move comes ahead of what will likely be a big focus on artificial intelligence in iOS 18, including the company’s AI projects. He suggested that it would help “bring order” to the country.
According to Garman’s report, this is the first time in nearly a decade that Lynch did not report to the company’s chief operating officer, Jeff Williams.
Kevin Lynch ‘brings order’ to Apple AI project
“Individuals believe Mr. Lynch’s move is aimed at bringing order to an area that has disrupted Apple: AI,” Garman said.
“When it comes to AI, it’s no secret that Apple has struggled to develop large-scale language models and other tools that can compete with the best in the industry.
“If Mr. Gianandrea ultimately leaves the company, Mr. Lynch, who is expected to be promoted to the senior vice president level, could replace him.”
Lynch has been Apple’s most consistent executive when it comes to the Watch, participating in the product line’s initial launch in 2014 and its transformation from a more upscale fashion item to a comprehensive health tracker.
Garman said he plans to continue working on the Apple Watch with Jeff Williams.
