According to research by Canalys, Apple achieved record shipments in the Indian smartphone market in the October-December period, gaining a 7% market share.

It further added that discounts on previous generation iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 models during online sales further increased Apple’s shipments and helped it secure a 7% market share.

According to the report, Samsung maintained its lead in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a market share of 20% and total shipments of 7.6 million units. Xiaomi continued its strong performance, shipping 72 million units, placing him in second place, followed by Vivo, shipping his 70 million units, placing him in third place. Realme and OPPO (excluding OnePlus) were in the top five, shipping 4.5 million units and 37 million units respectively.

Throughout 2023, the Indian smartphone market showed stability, with overall shipments of $14.86 billion, a decline of only 2%. Despite challenges such as inventory issues, minimal improvement in inflation and fluctuations in demand, the market showed resilience and consumer confidence improved in the second half of the year, the report said.
Looking ahead to 2024, Canalys expects the Indian smartphone market to see mid-single-digit growth due to the affordability of 5G devices and the post-pandemic replacement cycle. However, managing bill-of-material cost increases will be a major challenge for vendors next year.
