JAKARTA – Apple plans to release a new iOS 18 operating system in June that introduces AI-based features, but not all iPhones will be compatible.
Anyone still using an iPhone released before 2018, such as the SE series or 8 Plus or older models, won’t have access to iOS 18.
Older iPhones are not compatible because they have slower processors, less memory, and outdated hardware chips that cannot support high-power features.
This year’s OS is set to be Apple’s “biggest” update in partnership with Google’s AI Gemini, which for the first time will let you create images and write essays based on simple instructions on your iPhone. iPhone 8 and earlier models are not compatible with iOS 18 software update.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled to be held from June 10th to 14th.
WWDC usually kicks everything off with a keynote that reveals new operating systems for iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, and TVs. Owners of the newly released Vision Pro may also be able to get the update.
However, most of the users are waiting for an update to the iPhone operating system and AI is predicted to be the center of attention.
The smart device requires Apple’s A12 Bionic chip to be compatible with the iOS 18 update introduced when the company released the iPhone XR and iPhone XS models in 2018.
iPhones with the A11 Bionic (iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus) and A10 Fusion (iPhone 7 and 7 Plus) chips will also no longer be able to effectively support updates.
If your iPhone isn’t a Series 11-15 model, or a 2nd and 3rd generation SE, XR, XS, or XS Max, you won’t have access to iOS 18 and all future software updates.
According to Mark Garman of Bloomberg, Apple’s AI capabilities are expected to improve Siri and allow it to provide more accurate responses, while the Messages app is expected to answer questions and complete sentences automatically. That’s what it means.
The new update allows users to automatically create suggested playlists and playlists for the first time since iOS introduced collaborative playlists like those offered by Spotify 17 years ago.
The upcoming operating system will add a Custom Routes feature to Apple Maps, allowing users to enter directions of their own choosing rather than only accessing options previously selected by Apple. Masu.

The update comes after Apple’s latest model, the iPhone 15, experienced a significant sales decline in the weeks after its release in September, leading to it being called Apple’s biggest “failure” in its history.
Users complain that the material discolors, the phone overheats, there are software bugs, and it lacks durability, with some users saying they can hit the device with their bare hands.
Beta testing for iOS 18 is likely to begin in July, with a general release date expected in September 2024.
