As more details about the iPhone 16 emerge, the latest leaked images confirm that Apple’s next smartphone will receive the biggest design changes.
Long-time Apple leaker sonny dixon Behind the latest scoop includes exclusive images highlighting the design of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple is expected to announce this product range in early September 2024, but we can see many new features today.

Similar to last year’s iPhone 15 series, Apple will be injecting specific colors into the back glass, including four colors: space black, gray, white, and rose. It’s worth noting that the resulting glass isn’t as strong as the textured matte glass back used on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models. Still, this material may have strengthened over the past 12 months.
The move to injected glass will be one of the visible differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. Tim Cook and his team, like many others, hope that fashion and materials will be the right incentives to create upgrades within the community.

Apple plans to offer thinner bezels using a border-reducing structure. These structures allow display circuitry to be placed in a more compact layout, reducing the space required in the physical bezel. A cell phone case should hold the display in place and create a safe and secure structure. The design process is facilitated by the need for less internal volume.
Given that BRS will likely increase the bill of materials for phones that use it, this design will not be available on all four phones, but rather on the more expensive iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16. May be limited to Pro Max. Apple has spent the last few years trying hard to create a difference between the Pro iPhone and the Vanilla iPhone. Using BRS to create thinner, more fashionable designs fits right in with that spirit.
Dickson’s image shows a machined “blank” provided to peripheral manufacturers ahead of the phone’s launch. These allow cases, holders and other accessories to be designed to the exact dimensions of the device and individual buttons. Naturally, we don’t know how these new features will work in software, but the hardware on display clearly shows Apple’s latest approach to the iPhone.
Action button for all models
Following its introduction on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the action button is now available on all four iPhone models. Replaced the mute switch found on previous models. Many people continued to use the action button to toggle the mute/vibrate feature on their iPhone. However, this programmable button can be configured to open a single user-defined app or perform a specific action when pressed.

Introducing a capacitive capture button
The addition of a second button to the iPhone design has been leaked multiple times over the past six months. However, the exact design of the button and which iPhone models it would be featured on were in flux. No doubt Apple has created several prototypes to try out different options.
Apple is currently deciding on design and scope. For the latter, all iPhone 16 models will come with a new capture button to make marketing and developer adoption easier. For the former, Apple has decided to use capacitive buttons on all models. This means that the actual buttons have no moving parts and instead rely on a haptic-based “Taptic Engine” to simulate the feel of a physical button.
This is a secondary part of the UI, but if successful, future iPhones will have physical volume, power, and action buttons as Apple’s vision of a “portless and buttonless” smartphone gets closer and closer. will be replaced by a capacitive button.
Possibilities of 3D cameras
Blank also confirms the position of the camera lens of the rear camera. The diagonal layout seen on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus has been replaced with a vertical arrangement of two lenses. In addition to new hardware, Apple plans to introduce generative AI tools in iOS 18. We need to know more about Tim Cook’s AI plans at his June World Developer Conference. The new iPhone 16 family is likely to be released in the traditional early September window.
