Every year, Apple releases new operating software for its products, including the iPhone. In early June, Apple is expected to announce the next iPhone OS, iOS 18, at the World Wide Developers Conference. A new leak suggests that this year’s release will be a high-profile one.

Bloomberg’s Mark Garman reports in the latest Power On newsletter that Apple is making changes to one of the most important parts of the iPhone’s operating system: the home screen.

Many changes have been made over the years, including switching from the solid black background of early iPhones to colorful wallpapers, and adding the option to add your own photos as one of the first updates.

Additionally, we’ve added some great visual improvements, including a cool depth effect that makes app icons appear to be floating above the background.

Recently, Apple added the ability to add widgets. This has been available on his Android phone for a long time, but was perhaps more cleverly realized on the iPhone.

Garman said in the most tantalizing detail that the home screen will be “more customizable” this year. Presumably this will be in line with the lock screen improvements introduced as part of iOS 17.

Garman previously stated that this year’s iOS update is an exciting one, saying: . With that knowledge, his Apple developer conference in June should be pretty exciting. ”

It was recently reported that Apple is in talks with Google to bring Gemini’s generative AI capabilities to the iPhone.

Along with the new home screen, Garman said Apple will focus on “AI tools to help you manage your daily life,” rather than AI features like ChatGPT.

There are still no details as to what features the next iPhone will have, but other rumors include a major upgrade to Siri, powered by AI, and an extensive language model. It will be used to create a more advanced personal assistant with more natural conversational abilities. Improved integration with Apple iMessage. We also know from what Apple has told us that it plans to adopt the rich communications service as part of iMessage in late 2024. This foundation will be delivered in iOS 18, probably one of its earliest releases. RCS improves interoperability between iPhone and Android Messages. However, there is no expectation that Android’s green message bubbles will turn blue like native iMessage bubbles.

There’s a lot to be released between now and June.
