Apple just added the iPhone 6 Plus to its list of “obsolete” and “vintage” products. This means that the company has stopped supporting and parts supply for this phone. The iPad Mini 4 has also been designated vintage, which means it’s one step closer to the grave of obsolescence.
Apple products seem to be built to last forever with their trademark high build quality and material quality, but even your beloved Apple device needs back-end support. There will come a time when you will no longer be able to do it. The iPhone 6 Plus (oddly not the iPhone 6) was launched almost a decade ago, and is the latest model to reach that milestone.
Apple considers products obsolete if they haven’t been sold for more than seven years. Additionally, hardware services and authorized service providers will no longer provide support and repairs, so if you want to keep using your old phone, you’ll have to do everything DIY from here on out. Although not as bold as the “obsolete” label, Apple has added the iPad Mini 4 to its “vintage” list. This just goes to show that it won’t be long before the iPad is on all end-of-life lists. Basically, vintage items are products that Apple discontinued after more than 5 years and less than 7 years.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were popular devices when they were released in September 2014, for better or for worse. Users loved it for its larger (at the time) 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays, NFC compatibility, and sleek design (the iPhone 6 is still the thinnest phone to date). However, both phones had issues.
Bendgate aside, the iPhone 6 Plus continued to sell well for a long time.
