- Apple could lay the groundwork for an AI app store in June.
- Storefronts may be able to exclusively offer AI apps created by Apple and other companies.
- Apple’s AI app store announcement may take place at WWDC 2024.
The Apple camp has been largely silent on smartphone AI so far, but with the arrival of iOS 18 and WWDC 2024 (Apple’s annual developer conference), all that is about to change. Not only is Apple expected to announce new AI features in new versions of iOS, but it is also said to be in talks with various companies, including Google, to incorporate AI models into the iPhone.
Now, a new research note suggests that Apple may be planning to roll out an all-new AI app store in June, the same month it traditionally holds its WWDC event.talk to CNBCBen Reitz, director of technology research at Melius Research, said Apple isn’t really behind in the AI race.
“Going back and recognizing that this company has a history of persuading many leaders to build apps and do things with apps while perfecting the consumable ecosystem. “I think it’s necessary,” he said, adding that Steve Jobs “ran around with a lot of music companies and said, ‘Hey, look, we’ve realized this vision at $1 a song, and lo and behold, iTunes is going to change the music industry. I saved you,’ he said.
Reitz went on to say that in June Apple could start laying the groundwork for “how this new kind of app store will work with AI” and “how you can buy AI apps through the app store.” said.
“I’m sure Apple will develop its own app and AI assistant as always. I hope there will be an upgrade to Siri, which will probably be required. And we’ll start to see how this flows into the service line. “That’s the case,” Reitz said.

We’ve seen Android players like Google, Samsung, and others start offering new AI features on their smartphones, but this will be the first in the industry to have a dedicated app store for AI apps. The dates for this year’s WWDC have yet to be announced, but we’ll be watching to see what Apple has planned and how Android phone makers will react to Cupertino’s announcement.
