Apple announces this iPhone model has been officially discontinued

You can’t just call an old iPhone obsolete unless it’s obsolete by Apple’s definition. Any product that Apple stopped distributing more than seven years ago is considered obsolete by Apple. Once a device is given this title, all hardware service is discontinued and service providers can no longer order parts for it. There are exceptions, however: Mac laptops can have their batteries replaced for up to 10 years after Apple stops distributing that model, if parts are available.
As first spotted by MacRumors, Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone 5s. The phone was first released by Apple on September 20, 2013. The model introduced a space gray and gold color scheme and was powered by the 28nm A7 chip, Apple’s first SoC to use 64-bit architecture. The device was the first iPhone model to feature a Touch ID fingerprint scanner built into the home button.

The iPhone 5s is officially discontinued

The iPhone 5s had a 4-inch LCD display and came with iOS 7 pre-installed. The phone offered HD slow-motion video capture. It didn’t have 5G, Face ID, or AI.

Apple has also designated several products as vintage. These are products that Apple stopped selling more than five years ago, but are less than seven years old. Vintage products can be repaired at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, as long as the parts needed for the repair are available. Added to the list of vintage devices are the sixth-generation iPod touch and the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display, which was released in late 2015.

The 6th generation iPod touch was also released in 2015, and Apple has decided to end production of the iPod touch series in 2022.
