APPLE is making a series of changes that could save iPhone owners money and deter theft.
iPhone repairs can be expensive if done correctly.
A few years ago, the tech giant started allowing users to repair their devices themselves without having to go to an Apple Store.
However, the official process allowed only new genuine Apple parts to be used.
That’s expected to change later this year as Apple loosens the rules even further.
Starting in the fall, customers and independent repair shops will be able to use used Apple parts for repairs.
This should make repairs a little cheaper.
Of course, repairs are not for the faint of heart and should only be carried out by those who are confident in their work.
Still, you may still be able to save some money if you allow an independent repair shop to pick up your used parts.
“At Apple, we’re always looking for new ways to give our customers the best possible experience while reducing our impact on the planet, and a big part of that means designing products that last.” explained Apple senior John Tarnas. Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

“Over the past two years, teams across Apple have innovated the design and manufacturing of our products to support repairs with Apple Used Parts that don’t compromise your safety, security, or privacy.
“We are excited about this expansion of our repair program, which will extend the life of our products and their components while providing even more choice and convenience for our customers.”
This change applies to iPhone 15 and future model phones.
In an added boost, Apple has announced that it will extend its popular Activation Lock feature to iPhone parts.
This feature is designed to make it less desirable for criminals to steal iPhone parts by blocking reactivation of lost or stolen iPhones.
If the device being repaired detects that a supported part was obtained from another device with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, the part’s calibration capabilities will be limited.
