Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) recently held its 25th annual Science and Engineering Fair.
Fifty-five students participated in projects for the event on Saturday, February 10, and the fair was judged by 24 scientists, researchers and staff drawn from a wide range of organizations across the island.
The top award went to Molly Crawford for her project “Revolutionizing Menstrual Hygiene: An Eco-Friendly Approach with Reusable Tampons.” Elliott Stead won the top prize for his project ‘Developing a flight computer for a Class 1 rocket’ and Shevaun Brown won the top prize for his project ‘Best peat-free seed starter soil for soil blocks’.
Tisbury Waterways, Inc., a local nonprofit organization, honored one of its past presidents, Dr. James H. Porter, by funding the grand prize at this year’s expo. Our friends at SengeContact, who are committed to protecting and conserving water quality, honored former board member Charles E. Carlson, Jr. by sponsoring his 1st through 3rd place engineering awards at the fair. Ta. Vineyard Power also sponsored a wind turbine contest prize.
