Circle to Search was introduced. galaxy s24 Lineup from Samsung. Google allows users to long-press the home button, circle literally anything on the screen, and perform a Google image search based on what’s circled. Very intuitive and useful in many cases. Naturally, everyone should want this convenience on their smartphone, and thanks to Samsung, we might have an idea of when that might be possible.
In a press release addressing the broken sales record, Samsung specifically stated that Circle to Search “will only be available on Samsung and Google devices until September of this year.”
This seems to confirm an exclusive agreement between Samsung and Google. Google only recently started pushing it to their phones. The fine print says otherwise.
Circle to Search may be available on other brands of Android devices starting October 5, 2024, but is not in active development.
As haters have pointed out, Circle to Search isn’t necessarily groundbreaking technology. Google Lens, Assistant, and all the other Google features have been doing the same thing as Circle to Search for quite some time. But never before has it been so intuitive, so I encourage those guys to touch the grass. My point is, I have no idea how much effort it would take for Android OEMs to incorporate Circle to Search into their builds. Maybe there are a lot of them and I’m not doing anything, but I doubt that’s really the case. In any case, just because Samsung says no one else is working on it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, and it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right.
Meanwhile, Google and Samsung users are living the good life. Circle everything.
