Since the launch of the iPhone 14, Apple has supported satellite text messaging for emergency situations. It looks like we’ll see an even better version in the contest in the near future.
In a teardown of the new beta version of Android 15, 9to5Google found some text strings that show how satellite messaging works. The feature was first revealed in beta last month, but now we have more information about what to expect from it. The text string contains:

“You can message anyone, including emergency services.”

“When transmitting and receiving, please do so outdoors with a clear view of the sky.”

“Satellite messaging can be time-consuming and cannot include photos or videos.”

How Android Satellite Texting Beats iPhone
The last two text strings in this list are fairly predictable and more or less reflect what the satellite texting experience is like on the iPhone. However, the first one is a little strange. With iPhone you can: only Send messages to emergency services via satellite. Android may be able to send text messages to anyone if the feature is rolled out in this state.
Google hasn’t officially announced satellite texting for Android yet, but it might not be for long. Google I/O, the company’s annual software-focused conference, is approaching in May.
