Microsoft’s Copilot AI is slowly but surely becoming ubiquitous. Powered by GPT-4, this software can replace the default option of Google Assistant (or Gemini) on Android smartphones.
There’s already a Copilot app for Android or iPhone users, but the app doesn’t give you as much access to the entire on-device experience as Google Assistant. Microsoft this week updated its Copilot Android app so you can set it as your phone’s default digital assistant if you want. This change was first spotted by Mishall Rahman on his X/Twitter, and the same feature has been available on his ChatGPT app on Android for some time now.
Gemini still has some rough edges and some users may want to consider other options such as Copilot, and now they can. However, keep in mind that this integration is somewhat half-baked, at least for now. It also goes without saying that you will need access to his Copilot beta version on Google Play, since it is not available to everyone yet. If that still sounds appealing, this option is available in version 27.9.420225014 of Copilot for Android.
If you are using Copilot Beta for Android, go to your phone’s settings and[アプリ]>[デフォルト アプリ]>[デジタル アシスタント]You can switch from Google Assistant to Copilot by going to > If it’s not available, first make sure you’ve updated the Copilot app.
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, the full Copilot experience is not shown. Like Gemini, it doesn’t use all the APIs needed to listen to voices and commands, or read content on the screen. Instead, you need to tap the microphone, long press the home button, or swipe diagonally from the bottom corner of your phone to summon the AI assistant.
Given that Copilot for Android is only available in the beta channel, Microsoft is still actively working on this solution and may be adding additional features and controls. Once everything is fully operational and ready, the company will likely release it for everyone to use. Either way, this gives you one more option and a shortcut to another true AI assistant on Android.
