Almost a year ago at Google I/O, a new “Find My Device” network for trackers was announced for Android, but has since been postponed indefinitely for the benefit of iPhone users. now, finallynetworks are beginning to be rolled out.
The Find My Device network piggybacks on all Android smartphones with Google Play services to help users find lost items such as phones, smartwatches, trackers, headphones, and more. Google first announced the network in May 2024, with the goal of rolling it out within the next few months, but the company later announced a delay.
The network delay was waiting for Apple to implement protection against trackers used on Android to iOS. Apple was waiting for an industry standard to be built around this action (though no such protection was available on Android when AirTags debuted). The standard was ready as of December 2023. The latest beta version of Google Play Services v24.12.14 introduces an issue for some users.[設定]new to menu[オフライン デバイスの検索]will be displayed. This will bring up another page with options to search for devices that never use the network, devices that used the network in “high traffic areas,” and devices that always used the network. Users can also turn off this feature completely. By default, this option is checked and is “All Areas”.

The development was noticed by @AssembleDebug, and has since also been discovered by multiple users on Telegram. However, capacity appears to be limited at this time. It does not appear on a Pixel 8 Pro with the latest Play Services update, but your results may vary. This isn’t a big official announcement, but it’s probably the first step towards a full one. Perhaps Google will flip the switch completely once iOS 17.5 becomes available on the iPhone. iOS 17.5 is currently estimated to arrive in May. We’ve reached out to Google for more information.
