Android Auto and other hands-free services make driving and using your phone as safe as possible. Additionally, these apps are often updated with new features to make your drive even more useful. At least, that’s usually the case. But 9to5Google reports that Android Auto recently got a… rather strange update (or bug?).
Android Auto now reads messages twice before sending them
Sending messages using voice with Android Auto is usually a very simple process. After summoning the assistant, tell it where to send the message and dictate the content of the message. Your Google Assistant will read your message, confirm it, and then send it.
However, some users posted on Reddit that this behavior has changed. The change is that the Assistant will say you’re sending a message and then read the message out loud again. However, his second reading of this message doesn’t seem to actually mean anything.
There is currently no way to change this setting (if it even exists). As for replies, normal behavior remains so far. Your Assistant will read your message and you can choose whether to send it as a reply. He then listens to it once before being sent for confirmation.
For some users, the Assistant disables dictation too quickly, but this problem doesn’t seem to be as widespread as the one mentioned above.
It is not yet clear whether this is a bug or intended behavior. However, whatever it is, it doesn’t really improve usability, it just adds a few seconds to the process (which may be frustrating for some). We will let you know once we have more details.
