Google will add support for weather apps to Android Auto in 2023, and new options are coming soon. This week, MyRadar launches on Android Auto with live radar and more.
The MyRadar app for Android is designed as a radar-first weather app. It supports hyperlocal weather forecasts, push notifications for upcoming weather conditions, and also supports Wear OS.
This week, the app adds support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Some may wonder how much a weather app is worth in their car, but MyRadar makes a pretty good proposition with its “RouteCast” feature. The app sees the route ahead and provides alerts and predictions about conditions along that route.
MyRadar explains in a press release:
RouteCast calculates drive times by adjusting forecast conditions to future locations. The API provides more than 15 atmospheric weather variables, plus road temperature, crosswind alerts, and 10 unique road condition hazard classes for every point on your route. Forecast updates are generated every 15 minutes for each point, route segment, or connected vehicle GPS location for complete CONUS coverage. MyRadar’s timetable feature also provides optimal departure times based on the expected weather along your route.
However, please note that “RouteCast” is only available to paid subscribers. I was able to easily test this app. The app also supports Android Auto’s dashboard view and can function as a mapping app with touch support on a large display within the dashboard.
The MyRadar app is currently available on Android Auto and CarPlay through their respective Android and iOS apps, and will also be available on Android Automotive (native OS) through an early access program. Android Auto support is currently only available in the beta version of MyRadar for Android.
