Android Auto issues occur on some Galaxy S24 cars

Android Auto is literally the reason many people buy a car, but Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 series apparently has some early issues with the platform.

As detailed on its UK support page, Samsung has acknowledged that there are currently some issues with Android Auto on the Galaxy S24 series. In some cars, Android Auto won’t connect or won’t stay connected.

Affected vehicles include various models from Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT.

Samsung says the problem is not with the phone or Google’s software, but with the vehicle itself. All three automakers appear to be working on software updates to resolve the issue.

Samsung explains:

Some users have reported that they are unable to connect their Galaxy S24 to Volkswagen, Skoda, or SEAT cars using Android Auto. If you are experiencing this issue, try the steps below.

If the problem persists after following these steps, please contact your Volkswagen, ŠKODA or SEAT customer center or service center. These manufacturers have confirmed that they are working on software updates for affected vehicles.

Our support page also provides some troubleshooting steps for these issues. These steps include double-checking your car’s settings for anything that might prevent Android Auto from connecting, trying a different USB cable, updating the Android Auto app on your device, and updating your Galaxy S24’s system. This includes checking for updates (none have run yet). It has just been released).

For Volkswagen in particular, Samsung points out that there is a problem with IP addresses being assigned through Android hotspots, and that Volkswagen’s system is not fully compatible with it. However, an update may already be available from your dealer to fix the issue.

There are compatibility issues with hotspot connectivity between some Volkswagen vehicles and some Android OS models. This is because starting with Android OS 11 (now System OS 14), the way hotspot IP addresses are assigned has changed.

At this time, there is no information about other car brands that may be affected in other countries, but it is not uncommon for Samsung devices to experience issues with Android Auto. The issue started shortly after the launch of the Galaxy S23 series last year, and Samsung’s recent Android 14 update also caused headaches for Android Auto users.
