What you need to know
- MyRadar announced it has released an app for vehicles equipped with Android Auto, Apple’s CarPlay, and Google.
- The app provides weather information as drivers progress along their route, with updates generated every 15 minutes.
- MyRadar is free. However, the paid version allows drivers to use RouteCast, which provides weather forecasts for their desired route.
The popular weather radar app MyRadar has been released on Google’s Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay. According to a press release, MyRadar has joined Android’s early access program and is now available in cars with Google built-in.
“RouteCast” is a notable feature available to subscribers of the MyRadar app. This gives users an estimated driving time and forecast conditions that “match” where they’re headed. The detailed weather information provided includes more than 15 atmospheric weather variables, road temperatures, crosswind warnings, and “10 unique road condition hazard classes for each point along the route.”
Dr. Sarvesh Garimela, the company’s chief technology officer, said, “Just because it’s snowing doesn’t mean it’s going to stick to the roads.RouteCast uses not only atmospheric conditions but also road surface data. “It takes advantage of the characteristics of the road to improve driver safety and awareness.”
MyRadar says the app generates weather updates every 15 minutes for “each point or route segment traversed” and supports the entire United States.
When weather disasters are predicted, MyRadar is said to provide drivers with the best scheduled departure time through its timetable feature, avoiding unsightly risks.
Free tier users of the MyRadar app can access weather radar and warning alerts on Android and iOS. As mentioned above, the paid version of MyRadar retains access to “RouteCast” and its features. The company plans to continue investing in both vehicle platforms and “plans further enhancements in the coming months.”
Beyond drivers, MyRadar also teased collaborations with commercial organizations and logistics fleets. The company says its operations center can use an app on Windows to send important weather information to drivers and help them find the best route.
Compatible Android users can get MyRadar from the Play Store and use it on their mobile devices. If you want to try it out in an Android Auto-enabled car, you’ll need to jump into the beta environment.
