Android 15 is here, but it’s currently only in a very early form for developers to test. Google has made it available for download on recent Pixel devices such as Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8.
A blog post from Google’s Dave Burke mentions increased productivity, a “better media experience,” improved battery life, upgraded app performance, and protection of user privacy and security.
As you would expect from the developer preview, many of the early features are internal tweaks. For example, app makers will have more control over how low-light photos are handled by the camera and how bright the camera’s flash is. Another new feature is the ability to capture only part of the screen with screen recording.
Developers will also have access to more efficient power modes (to reduce strain on the battery) and additional file integrity protection features that can check if files have been tampered with before apps access them. It will be.
public beta
There aren’t any big new features to report yet, but small tweaks have already been noticed, such as more flexible control over keyboard vibration intensity and a “cooldown” feature for receiving notifications from busy group chats.
The code found in the Android 14 beta also provides some hints about upcoming features in Android 15. A proper battery health percentage indicator, the return of lock screen widgets, and enhanced support for the Bluetooth Auracast standard.
None of these features have appeared yet, but we expect them to come and go in the coming months as Google tweaks the code for Android smartphones and tablets. As with previous previews and betas, the purpose is to test the software. At this stage, you don’t need to think about installing it yourself.
This version is reportedly codenamed Vanilla Ice Cream, and the logo badge matches the same space theme seen on Android 14. According to the timeline published by Google, the public beta version will be available in April, and the full version will be released later this year.
