With the upcoming release of Android 15, new minimum requirements will be enforced, so Google will make it virtually impossible to install some Android apps.

It appears that this block is already in effect, and older apps targeting Android 6.0 install perfectly fine on Android 14, but not at all on current Android 15 builds. This was tested by installing the app via ADB. On the device itself, a Google Play Protect prompt blocks the installation but gives you the option to install the app anyway, which ultimately doesn’t work. Installation is blocked by the OS itself.
In practice, this is unlikely to affect the majority of apps on the device. Android 6.0 is often the oldest version of the OS that an app supports, but most apps target newer, if not more recent, versions of Android. However, for affected apps, you will need to increase the target version so that developers can continue to install the app.
