summary

  • Android 14 QPR3 Beta features a new “Easy Preset” mode with larger icons and text, improved contrast, and a focus on readability and accessibility.
  • This mode is still in its early stages, so it may be released in Android 15 instead of June.
  • The QPR3 beta also includes other features such as improved chat bubbles for tablets and dynamic touch sensitivity adjustment for Pixel smartphones.

Let’s be honest, phones have become increasingly complex over the years, and not everyone wants to deal with all the features their phone has to offer. Some people may have disabilities that prevent them from easily taking advantage of all of Android’s great features. That’s where new “Easy Presets” may come into play. This was discovered during development on the new Android 14 QPR3 beta.

We don’t yet know exactly what this new easy preset will look like, but Mishaal Rahman was able to dig up some preliminary details about the mode for Android Authority ahead of time. The Android expert had access to the special mode’s setup page and some strings showing exactly how it differs from his normal Android experience, but he still couldn’t access the simple presets themselves.

The strings in the code and the description on the simple preset settings page focus on readability and accessibility by “enlarging icons and text, adding contrast and boldness, and adding navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen.” It shows that you can put . Additionally, Mishal Rahman said the current wallpaper will be replaced with all black wallpaper to further increase contrast and readability.

The feature was spotted in Android 14 QPR3, but will most likely arrive in Android 15 first. Google has long started testing upcoming features in early builds of Android. The fact that this mode is not yet fully functional gives further weight to the idea that this mode could be released later than June, when Android 14 QPR3 is scheduled to be published. .

The new Android 14 beta has a few more new features hidden away. Tablets may be getting an improved version of chat bubbles, allowing you to chat with your most important friends and family in no time. Pixel phones will also be able to dynamically adjust their touch sensitivity to suit their environment, and the Pixel Fold might even learn a trick from OnePlus Open.

Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 is currently rolling out to Pixel smartphones enrolled in the Android Beta program. As always, it’s best to use the stable version if you want to avoid running into bugs that can break your phone. But if you have a spare phone and are curious about what’s coming next, you can easily join the QPR beta. .
