A discovery in Google’s latest Android beta allegedly hints at new Bluetooth features in Android 15.
According to Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman, Google will introduce an “audio sharing” page in Android 15 that will enable Bluetooth LE audio streams to nearby devices. This feature was discovered when we took a closer look at the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3 code.[設定]of[接続設定]Found on page.
Various strings mentioned a “switch” or “toggle” that activates the stream so others can join. We also found the string “Connect to an audio stream using a QR code” in the code.
The following “Audio Streams” menu was discovered. It offers that QR code option while also displaying currently active audio streams nearby. Rahman added that users may find the option to switch their listening device whenever this is available in a more stable format.
Unfortunately, its true functionality was never narrowed down as Rahman was unable to make anything work. Android 15 is (ideally) scheduled to be released around August 2024, but there’s always the possibility of a significant delay like his Android 14 last year. Additionally, this audio sharing feature can be problematic.
This newly discovered support for Bluetooth LE audio sharing is essentially what Bluetooth SIG debuted in June 2022 as “Auracast.” This feature allows users in public or private spaces to connect to devices that are broadcasting audio. This will allow people with earphones or hearing aids to connect to TV or public transport to hear important announcements.
It’s also worth mentioning that Google doesn’t yet offer Bluetooth LE-enabled Pixel Buds. If the company plans to release a new set with such functionality, as Rahman added, it will likely complement the many phones that already support it.
In early January, it was revealed that Google was potentially interested in bringing back the old lock screen feature in Android 15. Widgets may return in the form of At a Glance or through newly developed “shared spaces” on devices. For now, speculation is that the widget could make a comeback for tablets like the Pixel Tablet before it becomes widespread on mobile phones.
