summary
- Google released Android 15 Beta 2.2 today.
- Iterative upgrades are specifically designed for bug fixes without new features.
- A third beta will likely be released as soon as this week.
Last month at Google I/O, the company announced the latest major update to Android 15 with Android 15 beta 2. Since then, the company has rolled out a small update in the form of Android 15 beta 2.1, and today the company is rolling out yet another minor update in the form of Android 15 beta 2.2.
Like the previous Beta 2.1, this update exists primarily to fix some lingering bugs, one of which is quite notable as it relates to an all-new Android feature called Private Space. This feature (also announced at I/O) lets you create a separate section in your app drawer to house apps you want to keep especially safe. To view these apps, you’ll need a special PIN that’s different from the PIN you use to unlock your phone.
However, Android 15 beta 2 introduced an issue where starting a new private space could remove apps from the home screen. Google tried to address this issue in Android 15 beta 2.1 but failed, but has now made further fixes in this beta 2.2.
Beta 2.2 also fixes bugs related to Google Wallet, NFC payments, and an issue with a green tint when watching HDR content. Here’s the official changelog in full:
- Fixed a remaining issue where creating a private space for the first time on a device would remove app icons from the home screen (or home screen if multiple home screens were added). (Issue #340868295)
- Fixed an issue with wallet roll that caused NFC payments to stop working in some cases. (Issue #340933949)
- Fixed an issue where the app drawer would not open when swiping up. (Issue #335798568)
- Fixed an issue where NFC monitor mode could prevent NFC payments from processing in some cases.
- Fixed an issue that could cause videos recorded using 10-bit HDR to have a green cast.
- Fixed various other issues impacting system stability, interactivity, and connectivity.
Android 15 Beta 2.2 is available now for supported Pixel devices, including all Pixel phones since the Pixel 5, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet, with the full Beta 3 update expected to be released soon, possibly as soon as this week.
