Android 15 Beta 2.2 released, bringing major improvements to Pixel devices

A week after Google released Android 15 Beta 2, the following week saw the release of Beta 2.1 with minor fixes. Now, just as the month has begun, the company is releasing a new beta update. Beta 2.2 is different from the Beta 3 update (a general update) that will be released at the end of this month, but it certainly brings some solutions to the recurring issues since its release.

In Android Beta 2.2, Google is adding major improvements to Private Space, the app drawer, and NFC payments.

Beta 2.2 stands out from Beta 2.1 by comprehensively fixing several bugs, as the previous update was focused on a specific Privacy Space feature, which Google has been trying to fix ever since the beta was first released. To better address this issue, Beta 2.2 brings a number of significant improvements for Pixel devices. Private Space is now fully functional, and issues related to NFC and Wallet have been resolved at the same time.

The new Android 15 update comes with build AP31.240426.023 and will be available for the following devices:

  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixelfold
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a

The over-the-air OTA file and factory image have already been flashed by Google, but if you can wait, you can access the OTA on your phone. If you are still considering signing up for the beta, you can use this as your first stable test of Android 15. Beta 3 is expected to be released by the end of June, but if that doesn’t seem like a stretch, you can wait for a while.

In contrast to the first patch, this expansion update is 58 MB, while the previous update was only 12.12 MB. The new version fixes the issue that caused apps to be deleted when using the private space for the first time.

The impact of the 2.2 update is widespread, and it’s normal for bugs to appear from time to time during a release. Keep in mind that the stability of the current Android 14 build is unmatched. However, if you have Android Preview installed on your Pixel, the current patches will make your life much better.

The patch resolves several issues including fixing the wallet role on NFC payment functionality, fixing NFC observation mode, removing greenish video with 10-bit HDR, improving system stability and connectivity, etc. The OTA update will be available soon for users enrolled in the Pixel beta program, but if you can’t wait, you can update manually right now.
