In women’s freestyle, the winner of the Pan American Olympic Qualifying Wrestle-Off becomes the 2022 World Champion. dom parrish (53kg), kayla miracle (62kg), two-time world champion Amit Errol (68kg).
In the 53kg weight class, Parrish won by forfeit in the best-of-three series after 2019 world champion Jakara Winchester withdrew.
In the 62kg weight class, two-time world silver medalist and 2020 Olympian Miracle defeated 2023 world silver medalist Macy Quilty 2-1 in the final series.
In the first Championship Series match, Miracle scored a takedown in the first period and Quilty scored a takedown in the second period to tie the score at 2-2. Miracle stepped out with a body lock and won 3-2.
In the second game, Quilty won 6-3, extending the series to three games. Miracle led 1-0 at halftime after Quilty failed to score on the shot clock. In the second period, Quilty scored a takedown to make it 2-1, then added another takedown and turned for a 6-1 lead. A second miracle takedown at the end wasn’t enough.
In match three, Miracle took the lead when Quilty failed to score on the shot clock, but Quilty scored a takedown to take a 2-1 lead at the break. In the second period, Miracle hit a two-point short dump and got a takedown, then turned Quilty for a 5-2 lead. A four-point fireman’s carry made Miracle 9-2, which was the final score.
Quilty defeated 2023 World Championship bronze medalist Jennifer Page by 12-1 technical fall in the 62kg preliminary match. Quilty scored a takedown and turn in the first period to offset Page’s shot clock points and take a 1-0 lead at the break. In the second period, Quilty got a takedown, turned, and added another takedown to finish the match with eight more points.
In the 68kg weight class, two-time world champion Amit Errol won the championship series without a match after 2023 World Team member Emma Bruntil did not compete in either match due to injury. . Bruntil weighed in to compete.
Errol needed to win the qualifying round to advance to the finals, where she defeated two-time world championship bronze medalist Mallory Verte 8-0. Errol had three stepouts and a shot clock point to lead 4-0 at the break. In the second period, Errol added two more takedowns to round out her victory.
One of the other 68kg fighters who qualified and earned a spot in Wrestle-Off, 2021 World Championship bronze medalist Forrest Molinari, withdrew from the competition.
Wrestle-off was held in parallel with the historic first tournament. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Championship, the first NCAA division. Second conference championship in women’s wrestling history.
