jacks forest (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCourt) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on April 10, 2024.
The 17-year-old high school sophomore defeated a talented group of men’s freestylers in the 57kg class at the 2024 Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier to earn a spot in the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials in State College, Pennsylvania. .
Forrest compiled a 4-0 record, including three technical falls, while on the mat at James W. Robinson Middle School in Fairfax, Virginia. He outscored four opponents with a total of 45 wins and 6 losses. He defeated Nittany Lion WC’s Gary Steen, Indiana RTC’s Devan Turner, and Nittany Lion WC’s Joshua Rodriguez to advance to the finals.
In the championship match, Forrest posted a 10-0 technical fall over past NCAA champion and four-time NCAA All-American at Ohio State University, Nathan Tomasello. Forest took the lead at the 28-second mark with a four-point fireman’s carry. He added a second takedown with a fireman’s carry-to-shrug technique less than a minute into the match. The game was stopped at 1:18 after Forrest countered Tomasello’s shot attempt with a groin lift for four points.
Forest recently won the PIAA state title at Bishop McCourt High School. He won the U17 World Championship with Team USA in 2022 and is also the reigning junior national champion in freestyle. He is currently ranked No. 2 at 126 pounds and No. 6 pound-for-pound in the Flow Wrestling National High School Rankings.
