Deletea Qualls will serve as Team USA’s assistant track and field coach this summer.

“It is truly an honor and privilege to serve the best athletes in the entire world,” said Quarles.

Mr. Quarles is a native of Alleghany County and graduated from Alleghany High School in 1984.

There she played basketball, ran track and played in the marching band, and was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

After high school, Quarles continued to run track and field at the collegiate level and graduated from Liberty University.

After graduating, she began coaching at Liberty for eight years. She then spent time as a coach at both the University of South Carolina and James Madison University.

She also spent time as a Team USA coach at the World Championships and served as a personal coach for past Olympians.

“I already felt like I couldn’t do anything more, and then this happened,” Quarles said.

This summer, he will work for the Olympic team for the first time.

Ironically, Quarles never considered himself a coach.

“People always asked me, ‘How did you get into coaching?’ Well, it wasn’t what I wanted to do. Coaches saw things in me that I didn’t realize in myself. “They saw it in me. I think I’m a team leader,” she said.

Quarles is traveling for the Olympic Trials and preparing for Paris with Team USA, but he already has his eyes on the prize money.

“You want the national anthem to be played. I mean to be on the podium. And that’s what we live for, Team USA, we live for the national anthem to be played. There are,” Quarles said.

Qualls told 10 News her biggest inspirations are her own coaches, family and church community.
