The National Communications Authority (NCA) announced that all four undersea cables running from Ghana to Europe via Ivory Coast and Senegal are down, causing internet outages across the country.
A statement from the authorities explained that Ghana’s cable landing service providers (ACE, MainOne, SAT-3, WACS) have been completely cut off from international data services.
“As at the time of this update, all four submarine cables from Ghana to Europe via Ivory Coast and Senegal are still out of service. Mobile network operators (MNOs) and submarine cable landing service providers continue to cooperate. International partners in sub-regions whose cables are not affected by the current outage will provide connectivity while troubleshooting and recovery efforts are underway.
“Additionally, MNOs also leverage local caches, such as Ghana Internet Exchange (GIX) content and other local in-house caches, to provide efficient data services.
“NCA continues to monitor the situation and is working 24 hours a day with MNOs, submarine cable landing service providers and all relevant stakeholders to provide a timeline where possible for full restoration of data services. ” the statement reads in part.
