When I brought home the Apple Vision Pro, I was eager to add it to my Apple ecosystem. I own his iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPad Pro, Mac, and use his MacBook for work, so it made sense to meet the tech giant on the next big frontier. .
I’ve been using the Vision Pro for a week now, and I’m still impressed with the same features that were shown off in Apple’s free in-store demo. The headset heralds the era of “spatial computing” for Apple, tracking hand gestures and eyes to create new ways to control the company’s most novel devices yet.
There are also some familiar elements. Vision Pro has many of the same features as the iPad and has a similar UI. There are apps for entertainment, work, and arcade games, all of which can be overlaid on physical environments to create mixed reality experiences.
all of it feel Futuristic, and it is. But we can’t say that the first-generation Vision Pro is a perfect fit for the lives of people who prefer to interact IRL. I also wondered if I would really miss it if I stopped using it after a week or two.
Still, it’s a bold bet, and Apple has the potential to usher in a new era of human experience.

Good fit for the first few hours
The Vision Pro has two band options to wear.

I primarily use the standard headband that comes with the Vision Pro. I briefly tested the dual-loop band and didn’t immediately notice a huge difference in fit.
The Vision Pro weighs approximately 22.9 ounces, less than 2 ounces less than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. After a few hours of wear, your eyes will start to get tired. After all, your eyes are inches away from his two very bright screens. It starts to feel like the iPad is strapped to your face.
I tried to work all day inside the Vision Pro, but ended up needing a nap and some time away from the screen. This is a problem for Apple, which is touting the device as a productivity tool.
Apple says there was no way to make this version of the Vision Pro any lighter, but it needs to figure it out if it wants this to be a device people use every day.
We have tried our best to integrate Vision Pro into your daily life
While the Vision Pro’s mixed reality capabilities were impressive, it was difficult to focus on my environment.

I tested its immersive capabilities by cooking, working, watching movies, and listening to music while wearing the Vision Pro.
During my first 48 hours using the Vision Pro, I was amazed at how futuristic the experience felt. I’m new to the world of mixed reality and VR, so it didn’t take me long to get confused. Apple’s headsets have the sharpest screens. Packing so many pixels into such a small screen allows Apple to make undeniable bragging rights about how sharply it can render what’s in front of it, including apps, photos, and videos. Masu.
You can adjust the level of immersion using the “digital crown” at the top of the display. This is basically just a larger version of the crown on the side of the Apple Watch. One moment I was in the living room and the next I found myself on a cliff with a 360 degree view.
It’s breathtaking to be transported into another beautiful landscape, while watching movies and shows projected right in front of you in your own private cinema without blurry or pixelated images. What you can do is even more amazing.
As a casual technology user, my mission was to find a way to integrate Vision Pro into my daily life. I was looking for a reason to reach for a headset instead of my phone, iPad, or MacBook. All in all, I don’t think I found anything worth the $3,500 price tag.
Wearing a headset while cooking can be disorienting when you want to concentrate on something in the real world, but I enjoyed the quality of the music playing through the speakers while preparing dinner.
Vision Pro has been most helpful to me during my time at work. This ensures that everything you need for remote work is in one place. Seamlessly project your MacBook’s screen onto your headset while streaming the comforts of Disney+ in a separate window. The tradeoff of working with a customized hub of apps and media spread out in front of you is that your eyes will get tired after hours of use.
This has become my home office and I’m really enjoying it. But after 5 o’clock, I have a hard time finding fun ways to interact with Vision Pro on my own. The best way I came up with was to play Fruit Ninja in the living room and play his 3D tour of the house on the Zillow app. Usually, you just want to give your eyes and brain a rest after using them to interact with screens all day.

I love a good group activity.
It’s not often that you want to experience something cool for yourself, but unfortunately that comes with the realm of VR headsets.
The immersion is great, but having to go through the experience alone can get overwhelming after a while. For me, half the fun of watching movies is watching them with other people and sharing their comments.
FaceTime on the headset feels like the norm for anyone wearing the Vision Pro. It’s the people on the other end of the phone who know when something is wrong. They see a more ghostly, slightly older version of me that Apple has dubbed my Persona, created by scanning my face. However, the Vision Pro lets you share your screen with others on FaceTime calls, so they can see what you’re seeing through the headset.
But when it comes to interacting with people around you in a physical space, the Vision Pro isn’t like an iPhone, MacBook, or TV. You can’t easily bring someone into the virtual world you’re watching and have fun with them.
This can feel lonely, even with EyeSight, Apple’s name for the low-resolution eye representation that can be displayed on the outside of the Vision Pro. This feature feels like it’s designed to make onlookers feel a little less dystopian while sharing a room with you. Fake digital eyes aside, there’s no way around the fact that using Vision Pro means wearing a literal barrier between yourself and the real world.
Apple is doing everything it can to alleviate this problem by combining ultra-high-resolution screens with cutting-edge cameras and sensors that allow you to see the world around you in plenty of convincing detail. I went there.
However, the view through the camera is clearly a screen, which gets blurry as you move your head, and when you look from the inside, your surroundings immediately appear dark and your peripheral vision is limited – think ski goggles.
This technology will probably reach a stage similar to sunglasses. But in the meantime, I think the Vision Pro will be a tough sell to people until essential apps come along in a slimmer, lighter, less isolating form factor.
What are the alternatives?
Meta’s headset series offers great options for gamers and casual users like me at a low price.

If you want to experience VR, Apple’s mainstream competitors all offer cheaper alternatives. Meta offers three of his headsets at lower prices than the Vision Pro. Even the most expensive unit, the Meta Quest Pro, costs $1,000.
The Quest Pro is aimed at attracting professionals who want to work with a headset, rather than gamers who would opt for the $500-priced Meta Quest 3.

I don’t recommend the Vision Pro for a social person like me. It’s fun to brag about it to my friends, and I’ve become more productive at work, but I still haven’t found myself wondering where my life has been.
After my first two days with the device, I was told that Apple was on to something with the Vision Pro. And he’s been a little over a week now and I still believe that. However, the average consumer cannot afford to spend $3,500 on a device like this. hopeful stage, and it’s not worth the big bucks…yet.
But my iPhone 14 Pro Max makes the original iPhone from 2007 look like a toy. So while Apple still has a ways to go until the Vision Pro reaches its ideal form factor with a killer app that people can’t stop talking about, I wouldn’t bet against them.
Until then, schedule a demo at your local Apple Store and try it out before you reach for your wallet.
