Jammu, February 18: As the metabolic syndrome pandemic looms large in urban as well as rural populations, Dr. Sushil Sharma, Head of Cardiology Department, GMCH Jammu, said that he has been working on the Shiv Mandir of Block Balwal in Muti village. A day-long heart awareness and health checkup camp was held at the event. Jammu’s main motto is to educate people about the adverse effects of metabolic syndrome and its treatment in order to adopt a heart-friendly diet and lifestyle and prevent heart complications early.
In his interaction with people, Dr. Sushil said that metabolic syndrome is defined as the co-occurrence of obesity-related cardiovascular risk factors such as abdominal obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, hypertriglyceridemia, low HDL cholesterol and hypertension. His previous conceptualization of MetS focused on insulin resistance as a core feature, which is clearly consistent with the above list of features. ”
“Each component of this syndrome is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and the combination of these risk factors can lead to complications including microvascular dysfunction, coronary atherosclerosis and calcification, cardiac dysfunction, and myocardial infarction. The incidence and severity of cardiovascular disease is increasing, associated with a range of cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure.Although progress has been made in understanding the etiology and consequences of this complex disease, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. “Incompletely understood, it is unclear how these concurrent risk factors conspire to cause the range of deleterious cardiovascular diseases associated with obesity,” said Dr. Sharma. .
Other participants in the camp include Dr. Dhaneshwar Kapur and Dr. Devinder Singh. Paramedics and volunteers include Paramveer Singh, Vinay Kumar, Jatin Bhasin, Amish Jamwal, Rahul Vaid, Sunil Pandit, Mukesh Kumar, Gurav Sharma, Amnish Dutta, Ranjeet Singh, Raj. Kumar included.
