According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could have up to 40% smaller bezels than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

While the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max featured incredibly thin bezels, Apple is rumored to be going a step further with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, reducing this area by up to 40%, giving both flagships impressive screen-to-body ratios. As we reported, both flagships are said to ship with larger displays, and the narrower bezels should not significantly increase the footprint of both devices, making them easier to carry and more comfortable to use.

Apple may have succeeded in shrinking the bezels of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max by adopting “border reduction structure” technology.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to see Apple introduce 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, marking the first time the company has pursued larger panel sizes in years. As for bezels, a Weibo account with the handle “Setsuna Digital” said that Apple may be targeting a thinness of 1.15mm for the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max. For the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, the bezels are rumored to be 1.20mm, which would still be incredibly thin.

The rumor doesn’t reveal anything about how Apple and its design and engineering teams will achieve this feat, but previous reports have stated that the tech giant will employ “Border Reduction Structure” technology to make this possible. Separately published information previously stated that Apple was researching a technique called “Low Injection Pressure Overmolding” (LIPO), but it seems that Apple may have abandoned the latter in favor of one that could produce better results.

Adopting this technology would require a huge amount of effort and resources, so it’s unclear whether it will force Apple to raise the starting price of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, we’ve heard plenty of talk about an imminent price increase for the previous model, but that hasn’t happened. We also noticed a tipster mentioning the iPhone 15 Pro’s bezel dimensions as 1.71mm, but Apple is reporting that the figure will be reduced to 1.55mm. Either way, take this rumor with a pinch of salt and, as always, stay tuned for more updates.
