Academia Hernando Presents “The Science of Star Trek”

Academia Hernando boldly ventures into territory where no adult education program has gone before, presenting and exploring the “science of Star Trek.” Since the original “Star Trek” TV series debuted in 1965, this blockbuster sci-fi series has spawned eight TV series, 13 movies, numerous novels, comics, video games, and a product line. It has had an impact. But aside from action figures and lunchboxes, many of the innovations and super-cool gadgets featured in the Star Trek shows and movies played a role in inspiring technological advancements and some of the most high-tech machines. Many people don’t know that they could have played a role. Communication tools are essential to our daily lives.

Academia Hernando’s Spring 2024 lecture series continues with speaker and technology expert Bruce Gobiff on Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2301 Deltona Blvd. Lecture on “The Science of Star Trek”. Spring Hill.

Academia Hernando is a nonprofit lifelong learning organization that provides quality instruction and learning experiences to adult students in Hernando County and beyond. Their goal is to inform, educate, and inspire adult learners through a series of weekly lectures on a variety of topics.

The information released said, “Do you remember Star Trek?” We marveled at its optimistic vision and futuristic technology. Which “Star Trek” gadget or process has become a reality in the decades since its launch in 1966? Traveling where no one has gone before, transporters, replicators, PADDs, time Explore strange new worlds of travel, warp drive, artificial intelligence, and more, and see how much remains science fiction. ”

Bruce Gobioff holds a master’s degree in technology management from MIT and has spent 50 years in both managerial and technical roles in the IT industry. He is a member of his OLLI-USF and serves on the organization’s board of directors. He is a huge fan of the “Star Trek” TV series since its inception in 1966.

“I’m really excited to present ‘The Science of Star Trek’ to Academia Hernando,” said Gobioff. “I’ve been a Star Trek fan since the beginning. When you think of Star Trek, most people can name a few items from the series that have become reality. Mobile phones and iPads come to mind. There’s actually more, and we’ll explore this in class. ”
Sharon Prinz, director of Academia Hernando, is looking forward to welcoming this popular presenter to the Academia stage.
“We’re really looking forward to Bruce’s presentation. Star Trek was a great show, and many of the devices we saw on that show are now part of our daily lives.” she said. “Science fiction has become science.”

“The Science of Star Trek” is the eighth presentation in Academia Hernando’s Spring 2024 series, which features a wide range of topics presented by the experts who know the subject best. The season will begin with bus tours and events on his March 8th.
