The “Back in Black” band progresses across the continent with some lineup changes.
advertisementAustralian band AC/DC have announced a new European tour. This is their first live show in eight years, and two new members will be added to the live lineup.
The POWER UP tour kicks off in Germany on May 17th and will tour Europe through Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, and France, before finishing in Dublin on August 17th.
It will be the first time the ‘Highway to Hell’ rockers have toured Europe since 2016, and the first time they will be taking their 2020 album ‘Power Up’ to the continent.
The tour also marks the band’s 50th anniversary since Australian brothers Malcolm and Angus Young formed the band in late 1973 and played their first official show on New Year’s Eve that year.
Founding brother Malcolm passed away in 2017, with Angus still fronting the band alongside longtime lead vocalist Brian Johnson.
Since AC/DC last came to Europe, the band’s line-up has changed again. Longtime drummer Phil Rudd rejoined the band in 2020 to record their latest album, but has retired from touring.
Experienced touring drummer Matt Laug will replace Rudd on tour.
Similarly, bassist Cliff Williams, who returned to the band for the new album after leaving in 2016, will not be participating in the tour. Williams has also retired from touring, but did perform with the group at the Power Trip Music Festival late last year.
Former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney will take over low-end duties in Williams’ place. New musicians Laug and Chaney have previously performed with established musicians Alanis Morissette and Slash.
