ABC will further reorganize parts of its business, moving the network’s news division into a group that also includes local stations and business operations.
Debra O’Connell, a longtime Disney executive, will lead the new division as president of Disney Entertainment newsgroups and networks. She will report to ABC News President Kim Godwin and ABC Television President Chad Matthews.
“Debra is an accomplished executive who has served in a wide range of leadership roles at our company and is intimately familiar with the extraordinary power of ABC News and its world-class journalists,” said Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment. O’Connell told Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden: report. “This new role will see her overseeing all of our linear businesses, allowing her to optimize our iconic brands and lead them into the future. As we build on our success We look forward to having her lead these incredibly talented teams.”
O’Connell said, “I’m honored to champion the best network, best news organization, and best broadcast station in the world, and I’m grateful for Dana’s leadership and trust. Kim, Chad, and these great teams. We are excited to work together to develop a strategy that will provide excellent service to our audiences for years to come.”
Mr. O’Connell joined Mr. Walden’s team during Disney’s previous reorganization and most recently served as president of network and television operations for Disney Entertainment Television. She has now added the ABC News Group to a scope that already included local stations and business operations for Disney’s linear networks (FX Networks, Nat Geo, Disney Channel, Freeform) in addition to ABC. Previously, she served as president and general manager of WABC in New York.
