But a woman named Annabelle Calypso revealed there is a way for eligible people to get a free iPhone from the government. This immediately sounds like a scam or some kind of prank, but Calypso posted a video of herself opening an email she received in her mail.
She claimed that the government sent her an iPhone for free because she was on welfare.
“If you’re on any kind of welfare, whether it’s food stamps or Medicare, please take note,” she said in a video posted to TikTok. “Inside this box, believe it or not, is the free iPhone you received from AirTalk Wireless.”
Holding a small box just big enough for her phone and accessories, she explained how she got the smartphone, which is a government stipend.
“My grandmother used to say, ‘Don’t you have a government phone? Don’t you get food stamps?'” she explained. It’s like, ‘There’s nothing.’
But her grandmother convinced her to try getting something else, she said, and Calypso started scouring TikTok videos for information on how to get one until she finally came across AirTalk Wireless. .

AirTalk Wireless is a program offered by AirVoice Wireless, LLC and works in conjunction with the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). ACP’s goal is to provide connections for low-income Americans. This also includes people participating in certain government assistance programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, and federal public housing assistance.
“iPhones, Galaxy, tablets, everything else is free,” she explains. She said, “Even if you’re not on welfare, you can still qualify if you have a low income.”
As she put the camera back in her box, she said she would be “shuddering” if there was actually a phone inside. At first, she noticed a charger inside the box and she immediately thought she had been scammed, but further searching revealed her iPhone 7, which was brand new.

Unfortunately, ACP will no longer accept new applications in February 2024. According to the ACP website, the program is scheduled to end completely in April 2024 due to a lack of federal funding.
