A 32-year-old San Jose man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing and selling illegal drugs at a donut shop in the city.
Police announced Wednesday that the suspect, Luis Carrillo Moeda, was charged with running a drug operation out of a business in the 400 block of Blossom Hill Road. Police have not released the business name, but property records identify Carrillo Moeda as the owner of Yum Yum Donuts at that location.
“Personally, I think this is strange because I always come to this donut shop,” customer Mario said outside Yum Yum Donuts on Thursday. “And hearing this, it’s unbelievable. I never imagined it.”
According to police, on January 19, authorities executed search warrants at the suspect’s home and workplace and recovered various illegal narcotics, drug manufacturing parts, cash, unregistered firearms and ammunition.
The illegal drugs produced and sold are known as “Tusi”, “2C”, “Pink Cocaine”, “Pantera Rosa”, or “Pink Panther”. It is a new synthetic drug made from a mixture of ketamine and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). Police say methamphetamine, cocaine and opioids were used.
Doctors at Valley Medical Center said they have never seen a patient come in with an overdose of the new drug, but added that the new drug is a dangerous mixture.
“We just want the public to know that this disease exists because we’re starting to see more cases,” said Tanya Hernandez with the San Jose Police Department.
