Four big events to watch on the World Athletics Indoor Tour in Lievin

[ad_1]

After several exciting matches in Boston and Valencia last week, the World Athletics Indoor Tour heads to Livin, France.

One of the many stops on the World Athletics Indoor Tour, the field in Lievin will be star-studded this Saturday. From world champions to world record holders, Saturday’s competition should have it all.

Here are four events to keep an eye on this weekend.

Holloway Eyes Another Quickmark

It’s been exactly 2,185 days since Grant Holloway of the United States lost in the 60mH, and since then he has continued his streak of 40 wins and 0 losses. In addition to being a world record holder and having the fastest indoor time ever (8 of his 12), Holloway is also by far the best hurdler in the world. After starting the 2024 season with a win at last weekend’s New Balance Grand Prix, Holloway will be looking to see if he can improve on his season best of 7.35 and break his own 60mH world record once again. The American has a unique talent, especially in this field. However, Poland’s Jakub Szymanski and Frenchman Juste Kwaou-Masei, both of whom have run times of over 7.50 seconds this season, are the best challengers to the three-time 110mH world champion.

Moon, McCartney prepare for pole vault battle

Featuring the world’s most dominant vault athletes, this field will be a fan favorite on Saturday. American Katie Moon, a two-time world champion and Tokyo Olympic champion, enters the tournament as the top seed despite having the second-worst season best of the 11 women competing. . Famous names include New Zealand’s Eliza McCartney, Finland’s Wilma Moult and Britain’s Molly Caudalie. So far this season, Cordery and Meurto are the only women to clear 4.80 meters.

Loaded Men’s 3K Field on Deck

At one point, world record holder Ramecha Girma was scheduled to return to the same venue where she made history a year ago, but she has now been dropped from the start list, opting for the 2000m instead. Either way, fellow Ethiopians Selemon Barega and Hagos Gebriwet are set to put on a show as they battle it out for 15 laps. Berega and Wale, who ran times of 7:25.82 and 7:26.73 in Poland just a few days ago, are currently ranked 1-2 in the world. Ethiopian Samuel Tefera, who is also participating in the race, ran a time of 7:33.80 last month, placing him fourth this season. With or without Girma, this will be a fast race with a chance to break the world record.

Bol looks like he’ll stay in the win column.

Current 400mH world champion Femke Boll (Netherlands) has lost just five races since the start of 2022. She hasn’t beaten anyone since the 200m at the Dutch Championships, which is the only blot on her resume these days. But her event of choice this weekend is the 400m, an event in which she is not only the current world leader but also the short track world record holder. Bol will face Dutch teammate Lieke Claver, who is currently ranked second in the world. Throw in Britain’s Laviai Nielsen, Romania’s Andrea Miklos and France’s Amandine Brossier and you have an incredibly fast and competitive two-lap clash.
