Rumors about the iPhone 16’s design keep changing, with the latest suggesting the camera bump will resemble a thinner version of the iPhone X’s pill-shaped bump.

The iPhone XS’s camera was surrounded by a pill-shaped protrusion
Normally, the flow of designs slows down at the start of a new year as Apple finalizes product designs, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this cycle. After rumors surfaced in December of three possible designs, a new fourth design was shared by the same anonymous source.
According to rumors from mcroomers, the leaked design shows a thin pill-shaped camera bump with a vertical camera and an offset flash. The physical location of the camera and flash remains unchanged from previous leaks, only the design of the bump itself has changed.
This leak matches an image shared on X by a leaker known as Majin Bu. Although he is a source who has shared accurate details in the past, his track record is not that great.
iPhone 16 new information (rumors)
The size of the 16 Pro model is expected to remain unchanged for the 16 Pro Max, although many other sources say the size has increased. At least that’s the situation I’m seeing now. We cannot guarantee this as we do not have accurate measurements, but pic.twitter.com/uUJjMVikK9
The vertical camera arrangement is presumably for recording spatial video, which is currently only possible on the iPhone 15 Pro models. A 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera work together to capture 3D video that can be viewed with Apple Vision Pro.
Tuesday’s leak doesn’t go beyond a minor design tweak and a change to the action button that reverts to the current mechanical button design. Previous rumors suggested that a capacitive capture button would join a larger capacitive action button.
There were rumors that Apple would make the iPhone 15 Pro’s action button capacitive, but it ultimately abandoned that idea. Whatever problems there are with introducing capacitive buttons on the iPhone, it’s clearly continuing in development, and the capture button could also become mechanical.
The cosmetic changes to the camera bump and the move to mechanical action buttons aren’t shocking developments. It seems strange that Apple continues to work on the details of the iPhone 16’s appearance so late in its development cycle. Still, the rumors may also be time-lag, and the prototype in question may have been created months ago.
This rumor is rated as “possible” due to corroboration by Majin Wu and a previous rumor by Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 lineup in September. In addition to the new camera arrangement on the base model, both pro models are expected to have a larger design with a tetraprism camera.
