Future Android and Apple devices will receive an additional 12 months of repair warranty

When it comes to smartphones and technology, you often come across two types of people in general. One is those who change their phones or devices every year, and the other are those who prefer to keep the same one year after year. The latter often runs into trouble, especially after the device’s warranty expires. The EU is working on that change and future Apple and Android devices could be given an additional 12 months of repair warranty. This makes it very easy for people who want to ensure that their device continues to work for a long time without running it. We deal with all big problems.

The EU wants to make it easier for Android, Apple, and technology users in general to use their devices

The European Parliament has voted in favor of a bill that strengthens the right to repair. Both the Council and Parliament have now reached tentative agreements on certain laws. This is good news for all Android and iPhone owners, and we hope this extends beyond smartphones.

One of the provisions that has garnered the most attention is that product sellers must extend the warranty period for another calendar year after the product is repaired under warranty. However, there is a debate over this as to how EU member states can actually extend additional warranty periods. Europe already offers a two-year warranty on its products, but this will extend that to three years.

So how does all this work in favor of consumers? First of all, the law requires manufacturers to provide details about spare parts listed on their websites. These repair parts will also be made available to all repair sector stakeholders at prices that are affordable to consumers. The EU will also ensure that Android and other manufacturers do not use second-hand or 3D-printed spare parts sourced from independent repair shops. On top of that, the deal also guarantees that Apple and other manufacturers will make repairs in a reasonable time and price. If the product is under warranty, consumers also have the option of repair or replacement.

In addition to that, the new law will also introduce a standardized repair information form for use by repair companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises. This form is also issued to the consumer at no additional charge, but the repairer can charge a small fee for diagnostic services that need to be performed on her Android or other device.

Last but not least, the EU is also working on providing an online repair platform that lists various repair services within the region. This includes services within each member state as well as within the bloc. .

Over the past few years, the EU has made the idea of owning a smartphone much better than it used to be. People are no longer afraid of something seriously wrong with their smartphones or laptops when they can be easily repaired. For example, the latest Galaxy S24 received a near-perfect repairability score because it is easy to repair. Although we do not explicitly acknowledge that it is her EU that has made this possible, we are gradually seeing a reaction to this law across the industry.
