When the iPhone 16 series arrives this fall, there will almost certainly be two glaring omissions that could lead to noticeable sales declines, a new report claims. Not only will there be no “significant design changes,” but iPhones won’t be equipped with generative AI on a large scale, one of the key sales drivers, “until 2025 at the earliest.”
Do you think this is correct? It’s possible, as this report comes from one of the most trusted analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo of TFI Securities.
Kuo’s latest post on Medium claims that Apple has “reduced shipments of key upstream semiconductor components for the iPhone in 2024 by 15% year-on-year,” which means that “by 2024, the world’s major mobile phone “This could be the largest decline of any phone brand,” he added. ”
Kuo claims this is due to a “new paradigm in high-end mobile phone design.” Kuo went on to explain that this is because people are looking at two different factors when choosing an expensive phone: AI and foldability.
But wait, I wasn’t expecting a foldable iPhone, but isn’t AI coming to the iPhone this year? Indeed, there are strong rumors that Apple will announce major changes to iOS at its WWDC in June, and it could even be the biggest update ever. However, Kuo said Apple “won’t launch a more comprehensive and differentiated GenAI ecosystem/applications until 2025 at the earliest.”
Let’s think about this a little more positively. If it’s true that big changes to AI will be introduced in iOS 18 as predicted, then stay tuned to see what happens next year.
Kuo also said that “shipments in the Chinese market will continue to decline” due to the market’s preference for foldable phones among premium products and the resurgence of Huawei, a brand that has since been in decline. He claims to be deaf. There were restrictions on product sales overseas, but sales have seen a resurgence in recent months.
The report also states that “Apple will not release new iPhone models with significantly different designs” until 2025.
Of course, there are already reports of new updates for the iPhone 16 series. These include different displays on some models, a wider implementation of superior tetraprism cameras, new strategies for new generation processors, more advanced camera lenses, significantly more efficient OLED displays, and new thermal designs to prevent overheating. , improved battery life, a new microphone to improve Siri, an additional button designed for video recording, and an improved main camera sensor.
So, this is quite a list, and you may feel that if all of the above is provided, you will already be making significant design changes. And it’s only February! More leaks are likely to occur by fall. Again, if Kuo thinks the improvements in 2025 will be much larger than this year, I can’t wait.
